Our goal is to try and help stamp out Liver Shunt and at the same time fund surgeries for victims whose owners could not otherwise afford to have this life saving surgery on their Babies.

If this is the case then why is they have NOT funded Liver Shunt surgery for any of the people in the last year that have applied for help to save their dog's life?

The VICE president of the TSFMLS Fund has posted a web page response to many of the issues here. As usual his comments are so off-base as to be laughable. At the end of this page is a response to his pages by Connie (Grimm) Lamanteer, who was involved with many of these issues. They substantiate just about everything posted here. Thanks Connie for sending this to me. I refuse to duplicate his pages here because that would give him the exposure he can't get any other way.

We'd like to address why Maria Lelinho and Stephen Glass resigned as officers of the TSFMLS Fund:

Terri Shumsky had requested that Stephen set up some sort of process whereby anyone applying for Liver Shunt funding would have to prove need and to make sure they were not just looking for a handout.

After much thought and discussion between Terri, Maria, and Stephen, it was decided to request a Credit Report for anyone looking for funding.  All agreed that was a good way to make sure the financial need was there.

In the case that broke the camel’s back:  A woman applied for funding for her Yorkie with a possible Liver Shunt.  She also supplied the requested credit report.  On that report it indicated that her husband was gainfully employed;  that the woman was a beautician and she was gainfully employed;  that they had a total of 7 credit cards and none were delinquent in payment or overdrawn;  and that they had a 3 other dogs.  We took all that information into consideration but when asked why they couldn’t afford the surgery the woman said, “she needed funding because her husband just didn’t want to spend any of their savings for the treatment of their Yorkie.”

Both Maria and Stephen spoke with Terri about this and suggested that they deny funding because the NEED wasn’t there.  From all the info they had, this woman did not qualify for funding.

We must point out that Maria nor Stephen were on the funding committee!  Terri had a heart as big as the sky and even with all the checks and balances SHE wanted, she still put the funding issue to a vote and applied pressure to those on the funding committee to vote in the affirmative to fund this woman and her dog.  As a result $1200 was set aside for this case.

Stephen wrote to Terri and voiced his displeasure and told her that since he had donated many dollars, from the sale of all his web site items and from the book he wrote, with the anticipation that it would be used for people in need, he would only consider future donations on a case by case basis.  Terri took exception to this and took up a staunch position that he was wrong and she did so publicly.  He resigned since there was no use in arguing. 

As officers, Maria and Stephen,  of a not-for-profit like the TSFMLS fund or any other public group, they had a fiduciary responsibility to oversee the correct use of donated funds.  To violate that responsibility could leave them vulnerable to legal prosecution.  They were not in the position to leave themselves vulnerable to that, and so Maria agreeing with Stephen's position, she also resigned.  In speaking with Terri directly, Terri said she was tired of all the bickering and because of her own health conditions she was going to close down the TSFMLS fund and turn the remaining money over to Dr. Tobias's Angel Fund at the University of Tennessee.  She felt there was nobody else left qualified to run it. We agreed that this was a good option.

IT WAS TERRI THAT SUGGESTED CLOSING IT DOWN, NOT MARIA OR STEPHEN.

And to her credit Terri was right.  There was nobody left qualified to run it.  Just look what’s happened to the TSFMLS Fund since her death.  There has been a revolving door of officers that have come and gone, Some realized the direction the TSFMLS Fund had taken and left on their own accord as Maria and Stephen did.

The incompetent officers that stayed, and continue, have squandered most of the money that was left. 

Now they’re asking you to replace the funds that they wasted. 

Ask Gloria MacLeod if she's willing to replace the $750 they paid her, a breeder, for dogs she turned over to U/T or if they're willing to replace the over $2500 in travel expenses they spent unnecessarily! Why should this be left up to the public when it was them that squandered it? And why pay a Foundation a percentage of all the money you donate to them when there are experienced people willing to continue to run the TSFMLS Fund as it did before Terri's death?

If they, the current officers, had the sense of a gnat they would have taken the money left, after Terri’s death, and turned it over the the Angel Fund as Terri had wanted or started something like a Foundation then.  At that point they wouldn’t have had to beg to for money as they're doing now.  But No, they just sat there until Arlene Gilbert suggested setting up a Community Foundation. I'll state here that Arlene Gilbert has resigned and now has nothing to do with the original TSFMLS Funds.

WE ask, are you willing to throw away good money after bad  and to entrust them to direct where any of the funds will go if they set up the any Foundation? The decision is yours alone...........................

Terri will always be remembered for the good she did. In years to come her legend will remain, as has Smoky's, the Yorkie from WW2, and it won't take a foundation for that to continue. The best way to honor Terri is to follow her wishes and they're outlined below. Everything else is just posturing.......

The remaining officers of the TSFMLS Fund have had plenty of time to read this page and concoct (trump up: invent; "trump up charges") a series of what they consider to be factual answers but the fact remains that they they haven't proven one item on this page to be an untruth. They are acting like any common criminal by trying to cover their actions. We had hoped that maybe 500 people would have taken the time to read this page but now it's in the thousands.

If the Angel Fund at U/T is not a place you 'd like to direct your donations just look in your own communities for NO KILL animal shelters. There are many that will put your dollars to good use.

Notice...If you read nothing else on this page please read the following few paragraphs

We should not be debating whether the RI Community Foundation is a valid place or if they are able to efficiently manage any funds turned over to them by the officers of the TSFMLS fund.   Although there are many questions as to the viability of this, it’s not the crucial issue.

The crucial issue why they (the TSFMLS Officers) are not carrying out the wishes of Terri Shumsky!

Terri was very insistent, and even had it written into the TSFMLS Fund By-Laws, where the money should go if and when the “fund” was unable to carry on as established.  The current officers have publicly stated that they are unable to carry on running the TSFMLS Fund.  It could be their health, as they have claimed, or their complete lack of competence.  That’s something for each of you to ask yourself and decide.  They certainly have had plenty of time to post to other groups other than their own.   This current crop of officers weren’t even involved with composing and ratifying those by-laws so how could they possibly know what Terri’s intentions were?  I doubt they asked or even care....if they did they'd never take the course they're planning.

Just think for a moment how each of you would feel if you took the time to lay out your final wishes and then some individual or group of individuals popped up and dictated the exact opposite of what you wanted!  There has to be some ulterior motive for going against Terri’s wishes!  Their motive may be well intentioned but never-the-less, it’s not what Terri wanted. If these people have any sense of honor  or self respect they will abandon these plans and follow Terri Shumsky’s wishes

Their direction in setting up the Community Foundation is affront to the memory of Terri Shumsky and violates every premise she stood for.  Terri wanted the money to go to Dr. Tobias’s Angel Fund at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.  If she wanted something else or a memorial to her set up, she could have indicated that but that was not Terri Shumsky.  You only had to know her to realize that she thought little of her own importance.  For Terri it was for the Yorkies.

Nothing in this new proposed Community Foundation guaranties that any money, if any is generated, will be used for the benefit of the Yorkshire Terriers with Liver Shunts.  Just to have a Namesake organization for Terri Shumsky may be satisfying to some but Terri wouldn’t want that, and her family doesn’t  feel they, or Terri, would want that.

Finally you have to question whether you should donate any more of your hard earned  funds to a group that doesn't use the funds for your intended purpose or even participate in any of their intended auctions.  The Angel Fund is open to all that want to make direct contributions and we suggest that if you want to honor Terri you should make a donation, in her name, to that facility.

Posted just as recently as the beginning of February on the TSFMLS web site is the following:

Terri deserves to be remembered for all she did for the Yorkshire Terrier breed.

In our opinion: This is the first correct statment they've made in a very long time.

HOWEVER, the best way to honor Terri's memory and legacy is to comply with her request to send any remaining money to the University of Tennessee's Angel Fund. Terri was so insistent that this be done she made sure it was written into the TSFMLS Fund's By-Laws. In her voice recording, the sound playing now, it confirms it.

Doing anything else diminishes the memory of the person Terri was. Her heart was as big as all outdoors, her willingness to help when others turned away was nothing short of amazing, her friendship with Dr. Karen Tobias at U/T was firm and fast and that's why Terri wanted the money to go there.

It's those that now remain in charge of the money that TWIST and TURN Terri's wishes for their own purpose. Even a dying convict is granted their last request and Terri's request was as plain as the nose on your face. So I ask , why can't Gloria MacLeod and Ric Ross let Terri's wishes go forward. To do anything else is offensive to moral sensibilities and is injurious to Terri's reputation!!

COULD IT BE THAT THEY STILL WANT TO CONTROL THE MONEY WITHOUT HAVING TO ANSWER TO ANYONE and EVEN THOUGH THEY CLAIM THEY'RE TOO SICK TO CARRY ON?

AS A GIFT AND TRIBUTE TO TERRI'S MEMORY, IF AND WHEN THE MONEY IS TURNED OVER TO U/T, AS SHE REQUESTED, WE'LL DONATE A FRAMED PLAQUE TO U/T, THAT THEY CAN HANG ON THE WALL IN THEIR SMALL ANIMAL CLINIC, OUTLINING TERRI'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND PAYING TRIBUTE TO EVERYTHING SHE'S DONE FOR YORKSHIRE TERRIERS AND FOR HER WORK WITH DR. TOBIAS AND THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE.

AND WE'LL USE OUR OWN MONEY TO DO IT, AND NOT MONEY DONATED TO THE TSFMLS FUND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Gloria MacLeod has been posting that there are lies on this page. I challenge her to prove anything on this page to be a lie. Yes, there are emails and they are posted to show the truth. Again prove any statement wrong and I'll remove it.

Once more Gloria you've proved nothing here is a lie. It's easy to say everything is wrong but without specifics your rhetoric is as empty as your head. Scroll down the page and read the timeline right above Terri's email.

This is to Gloria MacLeod and for all to read and absorb: We believe you and your Vice-President to be deceitful, despicable people that are continuing to completely ignore Terri's Shumsky's wishes and that of her family. It's only your inflated ego's that prevent you from admitting you're wrong and that you just did not have what it takes to carry on the "work" as Terri did - and you have failed miserably.

Neither of you can - or do - bother to pay attention to your support group to help "EDUCATE". That's because you don't have any time left over from scrambling to cover your butts and throw up more smoke screens. You both obviously have enough time to be chatting it up on other groups - but your own. Paying attention to your own group should be MOST important to you in carrying on Terri's work.

You remain in blatant disregard of your own By Laws AND Mission Statement (if you need a copy of that document too, let us know!) and you both have openly violated your own governing documents (no board member is to receive compensation and co-mingling of funds - for starters) . Not a good example to set by those who are supposed to "lead".

When you have to answer to a higher authority than us, and you will have to answer, you'll regret what you're doing. It's our only hope that when your time comes and as you desend to the gates of hell, Terri is able to first glare at you from Heaven Above and smile as the heat is being turned up.

This whole page would just disappear if you did as Terri wanted and turn the money over to the Angel Fund at U/T. There would be no better memorial to Terri than to follow her heart and wishes, and that of her family, by you giving the remaining money to the University of Tennessee's Angel Fund.

LET ME BE CLEAR.....WE have no ulterior motives in this page and WE don't benefit in any way, shape, manner or form by trying to get you carry out Terri's wishes. She was Our Friend, Our Advisor, and she was quite clear in saying what she wanted. Just open your ears and listen, open your heart to Terri's voice and written word, and if are are truly the friend to her you say you are you'll change your direction and follow her wishes.

YOU AND YOUR COHORTS JUST REFUSE TO LISTEN AND DO THE RIGHT THING!

When it comes to lies, you can be held up to be an expert. At least you're good at something.

Bidding on items they say they'll put up for bid in the future only helps them direct those new funds in the direction they want. That may or MAY NOT be the best use of those funds.

Our recommendation is: If you feel so inclined to help a dog in need, donate funds to the dog's vet to help defray costs or send money to your favorite place that cares for dogs in need.

Chat groups like Yorkieland that limit discussion to only the views they publicly endorse, but privately speak against, are just as complicit as the officers of the TSFMLS Fund.

The Following will also show the readers what Terri and her surviving relatives want done.

I read thru your emails and I feel that the questions asked were very legitimate. I was asking myself some of those same questions.

I sincerely appreciate your desire to make Terri's name known world wide, but that is not what Terri would have wanted. She was all about Yorkie Dogs. All she wanted was to have Dr. Tobias find the marker to prevent Liver Shunt and any other research needed to improve the breed.

I have my own doubts about joining a big organization where you have little or no control over the distribution of the monies donated to them. Not only do they decide who gets what but they also take a considerable amount for their staff and other expenses.

It seems to me from reading thru all the emails that you sent to Richard in the last year, the problem is that too many of the people involved are more concerned with their own importance rather than with the dogs they profess to love. They spend all their time bickering about who said what instead of what can be done to help the breed.

I think that Terri would have kept the fund as it is and donated the funds directly to the Angel Fund and Dr. Tobias for research instead of worrying about her own personal recognition. Sponsor her book for her, all the royalties go to TSFMLS.

Here's the IRS form below that shows they were in violation of the IRS Reporting requirement that they denied.

Sure they corrected their incompetence by filing after they received the letter but why did it take a notice for them to do what they should have done in the first place?

They claimed this was a private document but it is not. Their claims are just one more piece of misinformation spewed out by them!

Prior to Terri Shumsky's death and before Gloria MacLeod and Ric ran the group, Terri called Maria Lelinho, former President/Secretary, on the phone and left a message indicated she felt it was time to close down the TSFMLS Fund. 

**Listen to Terri's own words by clicking on the sound control below to hear what Terri herself had to say.**  Gloria MacLeod has insisted that it was Maria and me, that wanted to shut the group down.  This voice recording proves that Terri was in agreement with the idea and notion that the funding part of TSFMLS Fund should be discontinued and that the balance should be turned over to UT's Angel Fund.  Gloria MacLeod can and has said anything she wants after Terri died and I doubt Gloria MacLeod knew this recording existed.  Eat your heart out Gloria; this only proves your not beyond making up anything to reach your goals, but in this case you fumbled the ball.....again.

If you can't hear or understand what Terri was saying. Here's the text of what she said:

Maria this is Terri, are you there? (pause) Are you there?  I really need to talk to you.  Um, I'm asking that you hang in there until after the Christmas auction and then I think we need  to take break to dissolve the Terri Shumsky FMLS so please do this to me...if you can call me back that's fine but I think that uh, we need to talk.  Talk to you, love you, bye bye.

As for a timeline, Maria resigned in Sept. of 04.  That comes into play since Terri asked her to stay until after Dec 04 --- It wasn't long after that from the emails above that Terri was already seeing the light again and wanted to shut it down once more in 2/05!!

Based upon the ending balance of the TSFMLS Fund in 2004, they had $11288.00.  One year later after a fund raising auction they report they only have $5488.02. 

Where did all the money go?

Gloria MacLeod and Ric Ross have maintained they have the backing of Terri's family.  That surprises me since the administrator of Terri's estate, Richard Cadwell, and his wife Kathryn ( Terri's sister) don't seem to share those sentiments. 

Why did "they" spend $2,527.43 in travel expenses in 2005 for Gloria MacLeod to fly to California from Canada when the TSFMLS vice-president lived 3 hours away by automobile?

Sue Hentschel flew to N.J. in 2006....and she brought her nephew..... Spending the TSFMLS funds for the trip.   They also rented a car..Sue picked up Terri's items, already boxed up by Connie Grimm, and sent them to various locations..   Some went to Darinda Tanner in Louisianna, Lorraine Iervolino in Texas, Sue's Hentschell's shop in Michigan & Ric Ross then in California.

Also, why did Gloria MacLeod received $750.00 for dogs she turned over to Dr. Tobias?

What was the Petty Cash they claim as (Never Recovered) of $500.00 for and who was it paid to?
If it was Becky Brady that got the $500.00, she claims that she gave $3000.00 to the TSFMLS fund. I assume $500.00 of it was to replenish the so called Petty Cash deficit!

I Guess the information above is hitting a nerve. They've tried everything to get this web page removed!!

My comment to the above: When it comes to nastiness, Gloria MacLeod,  shouldn't talk.  I may just post her filthy mouth comments that she's emailed to people that disagree with her.  Nothing could be nastier than spending money, donated by others for the treatment of Yorkies, for their own purposes.

Keep it up!  The exposure just helps expose this whole situation for what it is.

Ric you were not even a part of the TSFMLS Fund when it began in 2003 neither was Gloria MacLeod......you have no clue as to the original intent...and if Lorraine had not gotten rid of the archives on the Board list you would be able to read that....how do you think I brought myself up to speed on everything that happened within the fund from Sept 2003, when I left, to when I came on board again in 2005, I read the archives.....

NO, Ric TSFMLS was set up to help fund the surgeries for families who could not afford it....The UT Angel Fund was set up to fund research.....that is the whole reasoning behind Terri's wanting any remaining funds in the TSFMLS account, should it ever shut down to be given to UT Angel Fund. And you know as well as I do that that is indeed what Terri was planning to do after her procedure. Unfortunately that never happened and none of you has the decency to carry out her final wishes....

If you will remember correctly at the time of Terri's passing I was not even involved with TSFMLSF.......and had not been since September of 2003.....I offered to go over and help the family because I had been to Terri's and visited with her several times since September of 2003, but as a friend not as a member of TSFMLSF......I only requested for one of the Officer's to come help me when the arguing started happening between the friends and family and the fact that I was not sure what belonged to TSFMLSF and what belonged to Terri personally and the thinking was that a currant officer would know better, neither Richard nor Kathryn had any idea what belonged to the fund or Terri either......you were the first and most logical choice since driving distance we were the same, but, you said you could not do even a day trip because of your dogs and the fact your vehicle would not have carried all the many boxes of things that had to be removed for storage and you had no place to store them.

It was then that I was contacted by Lorraine and we figured that maybe Gloria MacLeod could fly in. I had never met Gloria in my life much less even talked to her via email or phone. I called Gloria and asked her if she would be willing to fly down to help me, she stated she was not financially able to do this so it was asked of the current President, Lorraine if funds could be approved for Gloria to fly to CA to help me with this. Gloria was not President at the time either....she was suggested because as you did correctly say, she had met Richard and Kathryn on an earlier visit to Terri's when she showed up to buy TJ....and because she and Terri had been conversing via email about another LS pup she had. At the time of Terri's passing Gloria was at UT giving Bessie to the LS breeding program.....

The flight was made and Gloria flew to Fresno and we drove to Paso Robles to help the family. We were there for 2 days packing everything up in boxes. All of the items completely filled my pick up and 2 more trips were made by me, after Gloria flew home, leaving it to me to finish gathering it all alone. Nor did I ever ask for or receive any compensation for taking the Hairamics to Dr Tobias in Tennessee, as was requested by Terri's family that she in fact have the last two remaining pieces of her wonderful work. I never asked for nor was I ever compensated for any gas money or expenses to do this. It was not until after all of this was done that I even considered getting back into TSFMLSF, I was offered assistant Secretary, to Ella Patterson and after many conversations with you as well as Lorraine and Gloria I agreed to do this, then Ella and I switched positions, only because I had the records at my home and it was a lot easier to access them. It was at that time that Lorraine stepped down as President and Gloria MacLeod was assigned the duty....Lorraine became Treasurer......the only position that never changed was yours...and I guess that is because a VP does nothing...he is just there in case the President can no longer do the duties.....well it appears that neither one of you can do it, so maybe that is why you are shutting the fund down?

Why would you have to go to Fresno, the records were in Paso Robles, no one ever asked you to come to Fresno . But it was ok for me to take some of the items to you in LA from Fresno, when you were doing the Pet Extravaganza, and at which time I again asked you to take all of the items I had stored in my garage and again you said you had no room to store them or a vehicle big enough to transport them, I even offered to bring them to your home...

It still amazes me that a Canadian citizen can be president of a US based 501c3 fund.

No one can destroy you...you have done that all by yourselves.....with your lies and accusations and cover up stories...

Excuse me!!!! When was the last time you spoke with either Richard or Kathryn personally........show some phone bills Ric......can you? Do you not think that if that was up there without permission, Stephen would have been contacted to take it down?????

Then turn the funds over to the Angel Fund at UT, they are doing the research......NOT the Rhode Island foundation.....if given to them you may as well just light a bon fire with the money and roast marshmallows....

This is the only true statement I see on your whole page.....she was in fact going to close out the account and give all remaining funds to UT Angel Fund.......she never wanted any kind of a legacy to her name......what you guys are doing is just a slap in the face to what she worked so hard to do all her life.....
